A One Block Urban Renewal District?

THE GUARDIAN learned today the fair city of Nampa wants another URA.  The new district will be a one block affair to take in the old Mercy Hospital in order to give the "developer from Caldwell" a tax break.

The city of Nampa will do anything to keep voters from approving this project and have already got a preliminary read from city attorney, Mr. White that they can proceed without a vote of the people on this new URA.

This new URA is item number 6 on the city council agenda for tonight.  The vote will likely be an eve split with Mayor Dale breaking the tie in favor of forming the new URA.

More on this as things move forward to a public hearing required by state statutes.

    To all,
As expected city council passed by a 3-1 vote--Kren against --Henry who had Knee surgery
this morning participated by telephone and voted yes with the stipulation that he had a lot
of questions that needed answering before he would vote yes when presented to council again.

In addition to the three steps below Nampa Redevelopment needs to pass a resolution Wednesday
afternoon @3:00PM (meeting in the new public safety building} and then goes to planning and zoning for a hearing before being sent to council.

  2. Well, I had hopes that Brad Henry would look out for the citizens of Nampa but this apparently isn't the case. The citizens of Nampa don't have any more nipples on which the Mayor and his cronies may suckle. We have been sucked dry what with the coming wastewater tax, trash service extortion,Idaho center, and now the "solyndra" of Nampa. Brad if you still have questions about an issue, why in the hell are you voting yes? It sounds like you're trying have it both ways in case this issue comes up in the next mayoral race.

  3. It is just wrong to give away tax money when thoes of us earning it have to work so hard to pay it. Not only does the developer get the local money but it can be used to aquire even more money at the federal level. The same scheme has been discussed in Caldwell, the developers home town and seams to have some support at city hall. Problem is Caldwell had to use $6,000,000 of rainy day funds to balance this years budget. While giving away tax money for developement. I could go on but I need to get back to running the business I founded without any free money. The same business that pays into the giveaway programsLocal state and federal,

  4. I hope Bob will reconsider his position on this and a couple other matters. We will be on the hook for well over $60,000,000 in urban renewal debt by the time the new library is built. I guess as taxpayers we deserve the representation we are willing to settle for.

  6. Not to get off the subject, but some of us that meet for coffee in the morning noticed the headline in IPT's 11-12-12 edition. Here comes the questions. Why does the mayor of Nampa need an assistant? How much is this assistant being paid? Why has the mayor hired a highly trained military counterinsurgency specialist to be his assistant? What is going on in the devious and corrupt minds of Team Tom Dale, now?

  7. If you look at how the Taj Mah Dale is sited its clear the intent is to take over the block and expand with something else. Perhaps a new city hall? Just another example of monument building with our hard earned tax dollars.

    1. The restaurant grapevine is alive and well in Nampa. We are talking, researching, and recollecting the bad things that have happened in Nampa over the last decade. We are anxiously awaiting to see what happens as campaign 2013 morphs and develops.

    2. Resteraunt grapevine needs to get off their collective asses and show up at city council, planning and zoning, and Nampa Redevelopment meetings. I realize that Monday nite football is quite important but I have missed several games this year to attend city council meetings. Most of this stuff is posted online on city website, but I would guess most of you haven't made the effort to even look up an agenda.

    3. The real truth is never discussed openly at these meetings, it would be a real waste of time to go. The real agenda is discussed behind closed doors, and at undisclosed locations.
Restaurant grapevine is now giving kudos to the community organizers in Middleton who are now trying to stop greed and corruption in their town, by the right of recall. They do not want to see what has happened in Nampa and Caldwell happen in their town. We give them a salute.

    4. Have another cup grapevine. Your salute didn't get quite enough signatures so you can try again in 90 days but of course your moral support probably meant a lot

  8. For some reason or another Voltaire is coming to my mind. Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't he the one that said, is it dangerous for the people when the people are right and the government is wrong?

A public discourse on the issues of the day makes the world a better place.

We welcome comments but they will be moderated and edited if too long or do not have anything to do with the post.
Agree or disagree just do it without profanity or it won't get posted. Try to keep your comments to no more than 300 words. Too long and I will try to edit it down or simply delete the comment. The whole idea is to get people to read your comment. Don't use 10 words when one will do the job.

It's OK to have a difference of opinion but keep it civil. I have used the "delete" feature on myself at times.

The ANONYMOUS feature for comments seems to be the most user friendly. People have commented they have difficulty with the other methods of posting comments.
