Guardians Discover $300,000 In Missing Transportation Funds
GUARDIAN TEAM REPORT
By Paul Alldredge, Caldwell GUARDIAN and David R. Frazier, Boise
GUARDIAN
While the legislature and governor are locked in a funding battle over transportation, the GUARDIANS have learned of $300,000 that seems to have slipped through the cyber cracks of the state computer-- thanks to a seven year long Canyon County alleged embezzlement only recently discovered.
Canyon County's Assessor, Gene Kuehn, apparently noticed problems with the numbers in the Motor Vehicle Division accounts of his office a while back. The assistant supervisor and one other person of the division were placed on administrative leave and later terminated--standard procedure in Canyon County when workers get caught crossways of the law.
Caldwell Police have been notified and are investigating. Since the matter deeply involves a state agency and state funds, look for the Canyon Prosecutor and Caldwell coppers to seek some expertise from the Idaho Attorney General's office.
Motor Vehicle licenses are sold by the county assessor in Idaho on a contract basis with the State Department of Transportation. We hear the state computer has a “big hole” in its security program and the alleged crime involved “multiple year registrations.” DMV workers in other counties were aware of the missing funds, having been tipped by their colleagues at the state level. It was an open secret among insiders who told us, “We were waiting for the shoe to drop.”
Once the legacy media gets on this GUARDIAN team report, we expect to hear some details of how the scam went down as officials spill the beans over the the alleged embezzlement.

A public discourse on the issues of the day makes the world a better place.
We welcome comments but they will be moderated and edited if too long or do not have anything to do with the post.
Agree or disagree just do it without profanity or it won't get posted. Try to keep your comments to no more than 300 words. Too long and I will try to edit it down or simply delete the comment. The whole idea is to get people to read your comment. Don't use 10 words when one will do the job.
It's OK to have a difference of opinion but keep it civil. I have used the "delete" feature on myself at times.
The ANONYMOUS feature for comments seems to be the most user friendly. People have commented they have difficulty with the other methods of posting comments.

ReplyDeleteHow did the manager of the DMV not notice what was going on with this and why has she not been mentioned in any of the reports? I heard a rumor that she was told to take a two week vacation while they were investigating. Sounds fishy to me.
ReplyDeleteThank you for breaking this news. However, I would like more details, I happen to have known one of the ladies in question for years. I am surprised that the missing funds has only been happening for the last 7 to 8 years. If many at the state level knew about this why the heck did they wait to so long......... That is wrong. Herer the Govenor wants to increase taxes and we have employees making our lives miserable yet she may get 14 years for each count of wrong doing so we will then pay for her life as well as her mistake... I am completely irritated at our due processes and the crocked ways of the goverement.
ReplyDeleteIt concerns me when our city, county, and state employees sit on their hands and let things like this go on. This type of attitude or behavior contributes to the many issues we now face. The conduct of the persons charged with this crime is criminal, but for all those that also knew, but did nothing have lost the confidence of the citizens that they work for and their actions border on assessory with those charged!
ReplyDeleteWow...our children are our everything but to put yourself in that kind of position for them when we try to teach our children right from wrong....and was her child that much of a spoiled child that they needed elaborate things..especially when they owned their own business..maybe she should be investigated too..her business could have been ran with state funds....who knows. what a shock for our community when we are all having hard times and no one is bailing us out.
ReplyDeleteThe Childs business was paid for by the Mother as well as $10,000 was Given to her Daughter to have her Ranch built and also the Monther funded all of her daughters Show Horses and paid for Air Fare to and from the shows...I know this for a FACT becuase I am Related!!
DeleteSO THIS IS WHERE OUR HIGH REGISTRATION FEES WERE GOING TO PAY FOR THE EMPLOYEES FAMILY FUNCTIONS.. WOW NICE AND MOST OF US CANT GET RAISES.. BUT IM SURE SHE WILL JUST GET A SLAP ON THE WRIST. AND DOES IT REALLY TAKE SEVEN YEARS TO NOTICE THIS KIND OF THEFT.. IM THINKING CANYON COUNTY NEEDS A BETTER AUDITING SYSTEM..
ReplyDeleteSo Mrs. Cathy Benoit did it for her "Adult" Children... So that one could have invitro and the other could keep his children. Cathy, tried to stop but each time she tried to stop something else would come up and she did would steal again. She herself is not sure exactly how much she took but is adimt that amount is not near what the papers are reporting.
ReplyDeletePlease report that Cathy actually turned herself in upon the news of Maggards investiagtion. Cathy new the shoe was going to drop on her. So kudos for her finally saying NO more.
So any updates on the missing county funds. I have heard so many stories that it just amazes me. Cathy herself thinks she will only get probation. How can this be? I wish we the cout system did not take so long.
ReplyDeleteCathi Benoit should not be the only one doing time! So should her two 40 something year old children!
ReplyDeleteBenoit confessed to the Law and the courts the money went to her Two Children! I think the State of Idaho should take the Two Adult Childrens assets to pay back the State Of Idaho!
By Law they can go after the Children , for some reason the Prosecutor has done Nothing to try and get the States Money back from them...
