Caldwell Speed Trap Beware!

THE GUARDIAN has been made aware of Caldwell's latest speed trap in the worst possible way with a citation..  The speed trap is ARTHUR STREET between 12th and 19th Avenue.  This street is downhill when travelling from east to west and very easy to exceed the 20 MPH speed limit.

THE GUARDIAN found this out today with a ticket with a $90.00 price tag.  I was cited for doing 31 MPH.  So be careful or Officer Gregory will he happy to issue you a citation.

  1. I recently got to make a $90 donation to the city of Nampa . On 12th av. rd just south of D&B the speed limit changes from 55 to 35 in a short distance. Pretty good return on the investment in a car and a patrolman if he writes 15 or 20 tickets a day. Just one more way to keep the money rolling in.

  2. Officer Gregory, one of Caldwell's finest on the front of "fighting crime", and keeping Caldwell safe. He is a shining example of why people dislike cops. 20 miles per hour is a ridiculous speed limit very few people follow. They have too many cops if they can dedicate an officer and a car for this kind of baloney.

I drive from the freeway to Ustick every day and it is a rare day I don't pass at least two and as many as four cop cars along this journey. Perhaps we have too many cops with too little to do. I would hate to have this guys job... he goes home and the wife asks "how was your day honey"? Every day busting old guys like you for doing 31 MPH has to make him feel fulfilled and has earned his pay.

  3. Hey C.G... check out Idaho Code 49-654 BASIC SPEED LAW.
    http://www.legislature.idaho.gov/idstat/Title49/T49CH6SECT49-654.htm

It would appear Caldwell and Nampa for that matter have created a speed trap using Idaho Code 49-207 that basically says they can enact any laws they want regarding just about anything.

  4. Don't speed and there is not a problem. Pay the fine and don't whine.

    1. you sound like a dumb robo-cop who enjoys writing tickets. I hate to be the one to inform you but speed traps do nothing for public safety. in fact, they do nothing but p!ss people off and do nothing but reinforce the notion that all cops are badge heavy pr!cks. Remember the words to "protect and serve", how do slow speed radar speed traps fit into this motto?

STEP programs can be of value if done where vehicle speed is a threat to public safety. and don't give me that crap about driving being a privilege and not a right. driving is an expensive necessity of life.

    2. This is merely a tiny example of the problem you have in Canyon and Nampa.

Paul, now that your ox has been gored, merely to the tune of $90, perhaps now you may begin to appreciate the much larger problems in your law enforcement circles. So far, you seem to believe these dolts are somehow saints.

    3. Paul, if you and others do not believe that this problem extends into the prosecutor's office and into the judiciary, then you are living under rocks.

    4. Get real people. Wha! Wha! Wha!

  5. And, the jail bond and so forth was a $70 million speed trap, pushed aggressively by nearly everyone in "law enforcement" and other official offices.

And, why do you think that prosecution charges shot up for misdemeanors and felonies by almost 40 percent in just 2009 to 2010???

  6. Why do you assume it is a speed trap?

I would ask you this. Did anyone bother to call the Chief and ask him if there were complaints from residents in the area asking for more speed enforcement? Ever think that happens quite a lot these days? Is it your attitude it's ok to speed, just not in my neighborhood?

Going faster than the speed limit is a threat to public safety. That's why we have speed limits. To prevent hot shots from killing others with their cars. If you cant obey the laws of the road, you shouldn't be driving because you are a threat to everyone else out there.

The real reason why you are all whining is because there is a fine involved. I will tell you what. I would be willing to trade the fines for a little public service on the side of the highway with you wearing a vest that says I got caught speeding without a care in a subdivision where your children are at play. Getting it into perspective yet? Oh I'm sure it's all that badge heavy cops fault that you cant play nice. Blame him if it makes you feel better whiner.

    1. Well said Anonymous! I would like to see some of these Indy 500 rejects picking up a little trash for their indiscretions! Furthermore, saying Paul believes these "dolts" are "saints" clearly tells me which side of the law they are on. Do they realize Paul used to be a cop? Are you suggesting he's a dolt? Just imagine if nobody was speeding, the city wouldn't make any money off them for it. Hey look at that a simple solution.

    2. if going faster than the speed limit is a "threat to public safety" then let's just lock everyone up because at one time or another we have all gone over the speed limit. You sound like a moron with a comment like this.

We all know cops use speed traps in towns and on the freeways. Funny how they hide in the shaded overpass areas on the freeway and the connector. I would hate to have that kind of job, it just seem unethical to me. It is a gotcha game they play and call it law enforcement and public safety.

    3. Funny but the cop that patrols my street on Happy Valley Road in Nampa parks in plain sight and seems to get a never ending supply of jugheads who like to speed. He tells me he starts writing them at 15 mph over and gives everyone else warnings. I think he is too lenient. Wait till you have crashes coming in to your yard and see how you like it. He still manages to write lots of tickets. This tells me there are a lot of morons who think they can do as they please without consequence. Last time I checked, you get a money fine for speeding, not locked up. You probably should be locked up though with your poor attitude.

  7. The coppers are too bumbling to apprehend the real criminals in Canyon, so the result is speed traps and jaywalking traps and crosswalk traps.

  8. A friend of mine had his 18 year old son stopped by the Idaho State Police last night. One tail light was out and was fixed today by putting a new bulb in. There was no requirement from the officer that it be fixed but to an 18 year old $65 is a lot of money. Is there any recourse other than just paying?

  9. The coppers lurk, bully, stalk, menace, and then hide behind "public safety".

  10. Caldwell Police are overstaffed, the citizens do not feel safer with a cop on every block - WE FEEL HARRASSED. We belong to a few orginizations and we now refuse to have any events in Caldwell due to local law enforcement. As desperate as this city is, they should want to welcome visitors instead of making it a place everyone want to stay away from - WAKE UP MAYOR NANCOLAS!

  11. I live near 13th and Arthur and agree that 20 mph is a bit slow for this stretch of road, however, that is the posted speed limit. I have to really pay attention so that I don't speed, but I do it because I don't want a ticket!

  12. This is so stupid! You brake the law in any sense of the word you have to accept the consequences. No one seems to like a cop until they need them. The law is the law so don't blame the cop who is doing his job. It doesn't matter what the speed sign has been set at. Go the speed limit and this wouldn't be a problem. I get so tired of people blaming cops for their stupid mistakes.

    1. I see so many cops in every direction I go these days in Caldwell, I drive in any direction I see anywhere from 2-5 cops. Next they will be saying "papers please" to all of us. I also see the motorcycle cop handing out tickets on the hill on Linden near Ray. What a job to have, handing out tickets all day long.

I can't go down any street in town that I don't see a cop with somebody pulled over for who knows what. "Breaking some law" for sure but I can tell you I ain't impressed, and it isnt' doing anything for the crime rate in this city.

    2. You don't have to break the law in Caldwell, they will find a reason to pull you over anyway, including "your car is too black, that is a sign of being in a gang" Being pulled over because you have a team emblem on your vehicle, "that is a sign of being in a gang"

A public discourse on the issues of the day makes the world a better place.

We welcome comments but they will be moderated and edited if too long or do not have anything to do with the post.
Agree or disagree just do it without profanity or it won't get posted. Try to keep your comments to no more than 300 words. Too long and I will try to edit it down or simply delete the comment. The whole idea is to get people to read your comment. Don't use 10 words when one will do the job.

It's OK to have a difference of opinion but keep it civil. I have used the "delete" feature on myself at times.

The ANONYMOUS feature for comments seems to be the most user friendly. People have commented they have difficulty with the other methods of posting comments.
