"Greed Is Good", 2010 Tax Increases v. 2009

All the talk about cash strapped government entities may be just so much smoke and mirrors.  THE GUARDIAN has obtained a chart of the increased taxes to be collected and is sharing this information with our readers what the most egregious entites property tax bite will be in 2010:

City of Nampa                 +$1,025,456.00                 +3.34%   for tax year 2010

City of Caldwell               +$521,485.00                   +4.25%

City of Middleton             +$72,269.00                     +8.14%

College of W. Id               +$255,000.00                   +5.09%

Canyon Hwy Dist. #4       +$201,597.00                   +5.69%

Canyon County                -$1,344,308                     -3.35%  (WILL NOT TAKE 3% INCREASE ALLOWED BY STATE STATUTE)

Caldwell Rural Fire          +$53,762                           +4.88%

Nampa Hwy Dist #1         +$258,107.00                    +5.01%

Kuna Fire                          +$61,271.00                      +5.69%

There are other agencies taking increases but they are small for the most part.  No matter what they say about keeping taxes in check for us taxpayers these are the numbers at this point in time. Read their collective lips...they are going to take all they can get from us except for the County Taxes.

Canyon County tax bite is the only one to show a decrease and any belt tightening.  The Commishes have acted in good faith with the taxpayers suffering in this economy.

Final note:  You are going to receive you 2010 tax assessment notices in the mail within the next few days.  Most of you will see a dramatic drop in the value of your property.  This does not translate to a lower property tax.  It looks from the above you will see a tax increase if you live in an incorporated city in Canyon County.

  1. Nampa and Caldwell get this big increase plus they get all the incremental assessment increases go to their Urban Renewal coffers. Talk about double dipping for Mayors Nancolas and Dale!

Suck us dry why don't you guys! This really stimulates the local economy...the ones at the public feed bag!

  2. Paul, these numbers are for the budgets the taxing districts are working under in the current year. Property owners paid these taxes in December 2009, and will again in June.

Whether each taxing district will increase or decrease their tax collections for the 2011 year (affecting property owners in December of 2010 and June of 2011), has not yet been determined, as the taxing districts are still working through the budgeting process.

  3. can't imagine the county will take less money when others are taking all they can get. final budgets will be out by the end of august and we'll all get to see the final product.

  4. One of the reasons the county will show lower taxes is they are sending out bills to the cities. Caldwell is on the receiving end of bills for animal control and they got another billing letter from the county to the tune of $500k for e-911 services. We are checking the record on the dispatch deal via public records requests

  5. Angie is correct, but she needs to read the title of the article. 2010 vs 2009 Taxes. Cities are already indicating that they can not lower taxes and maintain the same level of services.

All the taxing districts do a good job creating fear in the minds of the taxpayers. If you don't fund this or that then all will go to hell. Hell we have elected individuals that can't manage their own money let alone the taxpayers money.

  6. I have heard from some of my friends that work for the city and county that they are expecting a pay raise! I asked how that works out and the response was that, we support them to get reelected and they give us raises.

  9. Commissioners hold the line and don't raise your taxes. Everyone at the county tightens their belts and tries their best to give taxpayers a break. Meanwhile all the cities raise your taxes. Funny thing is all I am hearing again is more suspicion and hatred towards county government and county elected officials. I'm beginning to wonder why we are all so worried about cutting everyone a break when no matter how much we cut, the cities raise taxes and somehow we still catch all the hell. Don't know where some of your misinformed readers are hearing pay raises are in store for anyone at the county when the word of the day is cut cut cut! Of course the comments always come from "Anonymous" types who seemingly have an axe to grind. Way to go anonymous. At least have the courage to sign your name if you want to bad mouth someone so all can consider the source...I'm still waiting for that imaginary raise you are talking about. Haven't seen one in years. In fact the only thing I did see in the past couple of years was a pay cut.
Get your facts straight because all I see you posting is another hateful lie designed to keep the hate going. I'm calling B.S. on your comment unless you got some proof the county is giving pay raises which I seriously doubt.

  10. Bill, take the wad out of your underwear. Here's the rub with most people. Private enterprise gets their income cut they are forced to cut the workforce. When it hits government nobody gets cut and they start whining about raising taxes so they don't have to cut programs or people.

Can you think of a single county employee who got cut due to the economy save the people who left and their positions were not filled?

Same goes for schools. Full employment is the rule. Idaho has way too many school districts and way too much administrative overhead. Taxpayers have yet to say NO to school elections for more money.

  11. Parrett, I do not read anywhere in Paul's blog that he stated that courthouse employees would get a raise. You have a history of taking your eye off the ball.

I believe that someone commented that they heard from city and county employees are EXPECTING a raise! Expecting =/ Getting Mr. Bill..remembering you from years ago I would not give one to you either. I am glad you're not expecting more that you are worth. I will put my name to it. Don't know how to work the other gadgets.

  12. Actually fellas we have left over 20 positions unfilled for several years. Every team is operating at minimum staffing at all times with no relief factor. In case you guys haven't heard, B budget expenses have also been slashed to virtual non existence. Again you are way off mark and are confusing what you believe to be true with actual fact. Nobody here is expecting a pay raise. We are all acutely aware of the state of the current economy. To infer otherwise is a gross miss-statement and implies government employees are bad people who just want to raise your taxes and don't do anything useful to benefit society. Do you seriously want us to cut the patrol section anymore? Do you even have a clue as to how many officers are actually patrolling your streets right now? You so desperately want your worst fears to be true so you can vent on someone that you are unwilling to see the forest through the trees. Get a grip on reality guys and find out the real facts before assuming the worst. Mr. Leonard thank you for signing your name to your opinion. I can respect you and your courage. Nowhere does it say you have to like me or agree with me. Hell, I don't even know you or recall ever meeting you. At least you had the courage to say it to my face like a man and because you didn't cower like a cockroach in the shadows and stood up for what you believe I have to respect you for that, regardless of the discourtesy you paid me and other public servants.

A public discourse on the issues of the day makes the world a better place.

We welcome comments but they will be moderated and edited if too long or do not have anything to do with the post.
Agree or disagree just do it without profanity or it won't get posted. Try to keep your comments to no more than 300 words. Too long and I will try to edit it down or simply delete the comment. The whole idea is to get people to read your comment. Don't use 10 words when one will do the job.

It's OK to have a difference of opinion but keep it civil. I have used the "delete" feature on myself at times.

The ANONYMOUS feature for comments seems to be the most user friendly. People have commented they have difficulty with the other methods of posting comments.
