Councilman Mike Pollard's RANT on Downtown Meeting

The following rant email was forwarded to THE GUARDIAN from Joe Lombardo of JOE'S EMPORIUM in downtown Caldwell.  Messer's Lombardo and Carpenter put the meeting together so downtown blight issues could be presented.  The following is the email response from Caldwell City Councilman Mike Pollard:

"Bob and  Joe - you should be ASHAMED at what happened at the Caldwell Train Depot last week.  You embarrassed yourselves!  Joe, you know how you threatened my life a. few years ago with MANY witnesses. Bob you also knows the lies you told about me.  If you continue this crucifixion of our city leaders I will happily let everyone know your true colors.  Neither of you are qualified to lead this city!  BTW feel free to share this with the press because I have proof of everything I said."

Within the hour Councilman Pollard added the following email sent to the spouse of Bob Carpenter at 9:54PM on March 4, 2014:

"Bob and Joe- I'm sending this again to make sure you understand my position.  If you or your buddies Joe Lombardo or Paul Aldridge (sic) continue to spread lies about me or Mayor Nancolas you will hear from my legal representation at the Huntley Law Firm in Boise.  I'm not going to tolerate your stupidity any longer!"

There just isn't much anyone can add to the rants from Councilman Pollard except that he takes issue with the rights of citizens to meet with and question city leaders.  Apparently he has made similar threats to other citizens during his meanderings around downtown.

  1. Mr. Pollard must be going through puberty. His email sounds like something from my Jr. High School days.

More disturbing is that this is one of the minds on the Caldwell City Council making important city decisions.

  2. I was in attendance at the train depot and thought the meeting was handled very well. Mr. Lombardo and Mr.Carpenter made it clear that no comments from the attending crowd would be allowed in order to keep the meeting in order and on task.

This email says to me that provided we keep our mouths shut, pay our taxes, and go along with their "plan" all is well in Caldwell, but should there be any difference of opinion from the constituents city hall is quick to lash out and isolate any resistance as trouble makers.

This email is clearly unprofessional, in bad taste, and may be a true glimpse at how our elected officials view the tax payers opinion's as it relates to shaping the future of Caldwell.

Mr. Pollard, like it or not, is held to a higher standard as an agent of the people of Caldwell. If this is how he regards any contrasting opinions from his constituents he should immediately tender his resignation as a city council member.

  3. What Mike has said does nothing to improve the image of Caldwell's leaders to the outside world. It does reinforce the idea of some serious flaws with the people we have as elected leaders in Caldwell. Mike will remain in office because very few people actually care what goes on in our city.

    1. These people need to get a recall petition going.

  5. Mike has his nose (and head) so far up the Mayor's buttocks he is in severe danger of a broken neck if Garret makes a quick right or left turn. Pollard does not understand that his job is to represent the people of this city, not the Mayor. Mike drove the Chamber of Commerce into the ground and now he is doing the same thing while he is on the city council. The above email sent to Joe Lombardo is just wrong in so many ways. Joe is vested in Caldwell at a level than both the Mayor and Mike combined.

There has to be something in the water where failure as both a human being and at one's job creates the synergy and experience to hold public office.

I am pretty sick and tired of the city council acting as nothing more than a rubber stamp for the Mayor.

  6. Mr. Pollard needs to be censured publicly by the Mayor and City Council. His email is not appropriate behavior for any sitting councilman. He needs to make a public apology to Mr. Lombardo and Mr. Carpenter. I would ask just what has Pollard contributed to our city...the short answer is nothing and how he can make a statement like this is appalling.

  7. Pollard needs to resign. This email outburst is indicative of how he thinks and makes decisions for all of us who live in Caldwell. I am outraged by this ungracious response to people who are trying to make a positive contribution to our city. The Mayor needs to demand a letter of resignation from Pollard. He is not mentally fit to serve in elected office.

  8. Councilman Pollard scares the hell out of me. He needs to get a grip on reality and come to city council meetings prepared to conduct city business in a professional manner.

  9. What a piece of work. Has the Mayor of Caldwell been asked about this? Appointment to office and then "elected." That's how it goes in Caldwell. Sad but true.

  10. Mike Pollard has made equally insane outburst to other citizens of Caldwell and they stand by and do nothing. What is amazing to me is he was fired from his job as Chamber of Commerce Director in Caldwell and that very same body approved and sent his name on to the Mayor for consideration to fill an appointment to the City Council. Mike truly is a man of the people when nobody challenged this fool in his reelection to our city council.

Are we this morally and ethically bankrupt in Caldwell that this is the best we can do for an elected position of authority and responsibility in our city?

    1. I would add to this, he owns no property in Caldwell and rents the place where he lives. The word carpetbagger comes to mind as I write this.

  11. Hey Councilman Pollard, how about sharing with us some of the lies and threats leveled at you and Mayor Nancolas. We would love to hear what they are.

  12. You would think in this day and age of high-tech media that politicians, business leaders and even teenagers would be smart enough to know not to push the "send" button no matter how mad they are. If they're that stupid, do we want them in charge?

  13. This comment is directed to Councilman Pollard.

This is Caldwell, this is our home, this is us. We are the citizen's and we are tired of your posturings, self-importance, and your fervent hatred towards us. How frequent your misunderstandings, your delusions and firm belief that we the citizen's, through taxes, give large gifts of money to you and your crony’s. so you can do nothing of importance and then take away our rights.

When seemingly intelligent people like yourself suggest otherwise, act indifferently, say it is for a good cause all of your thoughts, deeds and actions become morally reprehensible. Given all that you, your fellow city council members and the Mayor has not done for downtown Caldwell is the perfection of narcissism. To believe otherwise, and to exercise faith that you are doing the right thing for Caldwell, to watch the suffering of the taxpayers for more money while you continue to accomplish nothing is obscene.

It tells me the city's government is so corrupt and morally bankrupt that your thinking in this way is a failure to reason honestly. We, the citizen's, of Caldwell are up against Tyrants plain and simple; tyrants that believe they are the master of the citizens. Your actions, your e-mails would no doubt embarrass the most ambitious psychopath. You wish us to believe you, by the thousands, but you are proving nothing. Those that do believe in you are believing what only lunatics are capable of on their own.

Our government of late, under the guise of the Patriot Act, has reverted back to the era of McCarthyism. What's next killings by the police department's jack booted thugs like other cities are seeing because someone didn't agree with you? Turns out the Russians aren't that bad after all.

In closing remember what was said by Edwin R. Murrow in the McCarthy era: “We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. We must remember always that accusation is not proof and that conviction depends upon evidence and due process of law. We will not walk in fear, one of another. We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men.”

    DO - a free citizen.

  14. I am deeply disturbed by the e-mail's that were sent to my wife by Councilman Pollard. His lack of self control worries me a great deal. As the word has gotten out I have learned that I need not feel special as many stories have come forward from business owners and individuals about the same irrational behavior to them. What ever the cause of this kind of outburst and lack of logic It could be time for the Chamber to pick his replacement. I would suggest a little more background checking rather than a pop quiz. This person sits with 5 other councilmen who preside over the regulation and management of a corporate entity with a 55 million dollar budget. We may have made a mistake!

    2. From what I have read above, the Gentleman of the Caldwell City Counsel Pollard would be well advised to pay whatever retainer is requested by Huntley & Assoc to make things right. I believe it was about 30 years ago Pollards Cafe was fumigated and a year later closed for good. A free popsicle for anyone that can give the correct address on Kimball north of the tracks where that was.

The business environment in Caldwell will get better when a better climate for business is allowed. I have met very few people here that seem to even know what I am talking about.

    3. Years ago Pollard's was a Buffet and served decent food at a decent price. It was located in what is now the Canyon County Organization on Aging Offices at Kimball and Albany on the NE corner. It was a hoot when George Randall would drive his gas powered wheelchair into Pollards, fill the place with blue exhaust smoke and not a soul batted an eye or voiced any discomfort... Hope this give you the vector for Pollard's Café.

  15. Is this the same Mike Pollard who:

Owns no property himself in Caldwell.
Obviously fired from his post at the Caldwell Chamber (see previous posts) and not to mention was escorted out by Caldwell Police.
Arrested four (4) times in the last four (4) years (at least) for DUI by Caldwell Police.

Yes, it no doubt is the same Mike Pollard. Since I wasn't there, I want to know what was the "lies" told by our host (Paul Alldredge) and Joe Lombardo that has caused the councilman to act with petty vindictiveness no unlike a child.

As stated above in the quote by Edwin Murrow. Stop confusing dissent with disloyalty, we the taxpayers, have had enough.

    1. This particular Mike Pollard denies he has ever been arrested for a DUI. Idaho has the distinction of having more than one Mike Pollard.

    2. I've met the Mike Pollard with the DUI charges. Used to be the boyfriend of a co-worker. He is in his late 40's, early 50's and not the councilman.

  17. Mr. Pollard needs to resign, and would have if it wasn't Caldwell, Idaho. In any other town the paper would be all over this email and the citizens would be throwing the city councilman out of town. Unfortunately, in this town, all Mr. Pollard and the rest of the city leadership has to do is wait it out until the few people who are aware of the situation are on to another topic on this blog.

I'm not sure if I'm more offended by Mr. Pollards behavior our ours. The apathy in this town is incredible.

  18. it seems to me it would be appropriate to hang this albatross around the Mayors neck if he appointed him.

  19. I would say this, it is not fare tobroad brush the council as a body because of one members loss mof self control. There are enough specific issues to go around. However he has blacked the eye of the entire body and should be delt with !

  20. I am outraged that Mr. Pollard's other members of the City Council and the Mayor have not called for Pollard's resignation. He thinks citizens have no right to question elected officials in Caldwell. What kink of city do I live in?

A public discourse on the issues of the day makes the world a better place.

We welcome comments but they will be moderated and edited if too long or do not have anything to do with the post.
Agree or disagree just do it without profanity or it won't get posted. Try to keep your comments to no more than 300 words. Too long and I will try to edit it down or simply delete the comment. The whole idea is to get people to read your comment. Don't use 10 words when one will do the job.

It's OK to have a difference of opinion but keep it civil. I have used the "delete" feature on myself at times.

The ANONYMOUS feature for comments seems to be the most user friendly. People have commented they have difficulty with the other methods of posting comments.
