TVCC Wants Urban Renewal to Fund a $20k Sign.

The following is taken from the Caldwell East Urban Renewal Agency monthly minutes, May 2013 meeting:

"#4 Consider TVCC Marketing Request
Chairman Waite presented a request from TVCC for approval to use their marketing funds of
$20,000 for the purchase and installation of a sign on Blaine Street. Discussion ensued with the
salient points being:

o Signage at that location should be a marketing tool and include reader board capabilities
for college events.

o $20,000 in marketing funds could be used to directly increase student enrollment.

o Signage for the TVCC building could be a URA project and utilized for marketing both
college and community events.

o Reviewing TVCC’s current marketing plan and potentially partnering with them in
further development of a plan to utilize future marketing dollars was suggested.
Chairman Waite noted that TVCC’s student enrollment is meeting projections and their growth
is on target. Dr. Kathleen Robinson will be invited to the June meeting to provide more
information to URA commissioners"

The main questions about TVCC are:
1. Who asked Caldwell taxpayers to fund this project?
2.  Why are Caldwell taxpayers now asked to fund a $20K sign for out of state TVCC?
3.  Why are Caldwell taxpayers funding a redundant community college effort to College of Western Idaho that won overwhelming support in an election process?
4.  What education void does TVCC fill that isn't already filled by CWI?

THE GUARDIAN won't even attempt to answer the above questions but the multimillion dollar support of TVCC from Caldwell taxpayers is a troubling issue when you factor in Caldwell property owners are getting a double whammy of taxation for local community college efforts.

  1. This is just one more example of what is wrong with urban renewal. There are so many examples of money "leaking" out of the pot of taxpayer money we would all be really p!ssed if we knew about all of them. Between Nampa and Caldwell they can't spend it fast enough.

Why does TVCC get $20K/year for marketing money from Caldwell taxpayers?

  2. I presume the location of this new "Glow in the Dark" sign will be "Out on Highway 61". That's I84 and 10th for our conservative non Dylan fans. They don't have the xxxxx's to put it on Blaine and 10th next to CWI's, or do they.

  3. As the man said follow the money. It would be interesting to know where some of these funds end up.If one was of a suspicious nature you might wonder the motivation of these decisions.

  4. It was once said, "Out of war few profit". A question I have. If the TVCC is improving, progressing, and meeting projections. Why do they still need the tax dollars for this $20k sign? It is just anothe abuse that a few have put on the many because of the many's ignorance and non involvement that continually goes on in society. The old, Feed them and keep them in the dark routine. That is how it works if you want something to succeed..

  5. It appears there is a fair amount of delusion about the success of TVCC in Caldwell if they are still seeking funds from Caldwell taxpayers. It may be time for those in denial to consider making the building an extension of College of Western Idaho. The effrontery of all this is something voters need to consider this fall. Mayor Nancolas and the sitting members of the city council need to be held accountable over this ill conceived project with our money.

A public discourse on the issues of the day makes the world a better place.

We welcome comments but they will be moderated and edited if too long or do not have anything to do with the post.
Agree or disagree just do it without profanity or it won't get posted. Try to keep your comments to no more than 300 words. Too long and I will try to edit it down or simply delete the comment. The whole idea is to get people to read your comment. Don't use 10 words when one will do the job.

It's OK to have a difference of opinion but keep it civil. I have used the "delete" feature on myself at times.

The ANONYMOUS feature for comments seems to be the most user friendly. People have commented they have difficulty with the other methods of posting comments.
