New Roundabout at Ustick and Indiana Open

A brand new roundabout is now open at Ustick and Indiana in Caldwell and it is doing great for traffic movement.  Heretofore, it was a clog point for traffic in every direction.  THE GUARDIAN has driven through it twice at peak traffic hours and found it wide open for motorists.

There will be some sidewalk work along with what appears to be some landscaping at this intersection before all work is completed.  It would be interesting to hear reader comments on their impressions of this new intersection and how they feel it works for them.

  1. I have driven the roundabouts in Nampa and they flow a little easier than ours in Caldwell probably because they have 2 lanes instead of 1 I see that ours have additional area for an addition of another lane but why didn't they do it during construction instead of closing it again for 2 months.

    1. I drive through the new roundabout once or twice a day, often during peak traffic times. I go to CHS, the Y, and Brother's Park a lot. With the old four way stop I would have found other ways to get around the intersection (cutting through neighborhood streets). I have yet to wait more than a few seconds to get through our new roundabout. I have to say I was skeptical but this thing seems to work.

  2. I'm a resident of Caldwell and am thrilled with our first roundabout. They do help traffic flow smoothly, as long as people adhere to the laws. I had a guy behind me honk because I stopped to see where the vehicle in the circle was going to exit, as he didnt have a blinker on to indicate he was turning on the road I was on. Had he used his blinker, I wouldn't have stopped, but if I hadn't stopped and he continued past me, there would've been an accident, hence the yield signs going into the roundabout. Please use your blinkers to indicate which way you are exiting.
Hopefully the city is going to level the mound of dirt in the middle of the roundabout so it will be easier to see the cars that are traveling within the circle.

A public discourse on the issues of the day makes the world a better place.

We welcome comments but they will be moderated and edited if too long or do not have anything to do with the post.
Agree or disagree just do it without profanity or it won't get posted. Try to keep your comments to no more than 300 words. Too long and I will try to edit it down or simply delete the comment. The whole idea is to get people to read your comment. Don't use 10 words when one will do the job.

It's OK to have a difference of opinion but keep it civil. I have used the "delete" feature on myself at times.

The ANONYMOUS feature for comments seems to be the most user friendly. People have commented they have difficulty with the other methods of posting comments.
