Nampa Annex Slated for Closure

This is my first post after taking a long summer break well into Indian Summer.

I would like to report Guardian readers Nampa Court Annex will cease operations in January of 2015.  It was previously reported is has been costing county taxpayers an estimated $900K/yr. to keep this facility open.  Closure and consolidation will come on the heels of opening the new County Administration Building.

In addition to closure of the Nampa Annex; the Public Defender will be relocated to the Canyon County Courthouse Campus.  This move has been estimated to save taxpayers an additional $2MM a year.

  1. Welcome back Paul. I have missed your comments.Once the court annex is is closed I wonder how long it will be before something like a new city hall is proposed on that block. If you look at how the police station was sited it sure looks like the intention is to complete the arc with another building. I wonder if we will have a vote on that one?

  2. It’s about time. I always thought having that facility in Nampa was a waste. County business needs to be conducted in the county seat

  3. Paul

I would assume these savings will be for county taxpayers. I am sure Tom Dale will pass the savings on to his constituents

  5. Paul: I tried to close the nampa court and Parma court. And for years afterward. Got Parma done. No one besides me thought it was waste of money in nampa. Many thought it would be too "inconvenient" for nampans to go to Caldwell for court. I was criticized as an outsider and renegade! Glad it will finally happen

  6. Note to Guardian readers; the above comments came to me as emails. Folks are now aware I am back stirring the pot. I will try to keep tabs on our elected officials as best I can.

  7. I wonder how long it will take for Tom Dale to screw this decision up?

    1. Glad to see you back. I was beginning to wonder if the minions against the truth, had done some arm twisting and forced you to close down your site. Looking forward to some interesting future topics. Canyon County needs more truth seekers like you.

  8. I am a little confused, are the county commisioners actually tying to spend LESS taxpayer money?

    1. The short answer here is YES! The payback is around five years for what they are now spending over what the new building costs. Also it is a win for cleaning up the visuals around the courthouse.

  9. So who actually owns the annex in Nampa--
does Nampa own it or the county--Rumor has it the new Mayor of Nampa Bob Henry is feeling a bit crowded in the current Mayor's office and may be looking for a site for a new city hall--PuRRRfict fit wouldn't you say?

  10. It is MORE than fitting that this facility die, and be buried!!

Nampa City should be deeply ashamed of its criminal injustice system!!!

  11. The Nampa Annex closure will not happen in January, 2015. Remodeling at the courthouse needs to be completed before the Nampa operations can move to the courthouse. Demolition in the courthouse has not yet started so I think it would be optimistic to see this move happen before late spring or early summer 2015.

  12. The "advertised" savings are overstated. Yes, the costs of operating the physical facility and the costs of part-time security personnel will be saved, but that is it. All the other personnel will simply be shifted to the courthouse. No way does that add up to $900,000 in savings..

  13. Like I said in an early post that has never made it to your website, this project is many months behind schedule and there is no way the Nampa Annex is closing in January. The courthouse remodel project is barely getting underway with 6 weeks of demolition activity just starting and not date set for bids to go out on the actual remodel to the courthouse that will be necessary to house the operations now in Nampa.

  14. Back before the Grand Police Palace in Nampa was built, The County was offered a $250K credit toward rent on the second floor of the Police Palace. Mayor Tom and his team wanted a renter for space on the second floor and needed the site for parking. This info comes from a meeting held between Nampa officials and the Commissioners. I got a copy of the meeting on a CD.

Mayor Tom was advocating a long term lease for space on the second floor. The lease is a clear violation of the Idaho Constitution. We can't wait to see what he will do as our new Commish to get around laws governing public officials.

A public discourse on the issues of the day makes the world a better place.

We welcome comments but they will be moderated and edited if too long or do not have anything to do with the post.
Agree or disagree just do it without profanity or it won't get posted. Try to keep your comments to no more than 300 words. Too long and I will try to edit it down or simply delete the comment. The whole idea is to get people to read your comment. Don't use 10 words when one will do the job.

It's OK to have a difference of opinion but keep it civil. I have used the "delete" feature on myself at times.

The ANONYMOUS feature for comments seems to be the most user friendly. People have commented they have difficulty with the other methods of posting comments.
