State Senator John McGee Sits in Ada County Jail

HUMOR

State Senator Sits In Slammer

Senator John McGee---Inmate John McGee
“UNDER PAR” took on a new meaning for Idaho State Senator John McGee, 38, after he left a Boise golf course Saturday night/Sunday morning and ended up in the Ada County slammer charged with DUI and Grand Theft.
His blood alcohol level was reported at .15 which is nearly double the legal limit.
We suspect he would like a MULLIGAN on the entire caper.
He is to be arraigned Monday in 4th District court on the two charges which stem from driving off in a strange vehicle he found with keys in the ignition after leaving a golf course and jackkniffing the rig in the driveway of a SW Boise home with children watching at 3 a.m. Deputies found him asleep in the vehicle.
Will he try to explain away his “error” and claim he didn’t notice the 20 foot trailer hitched on the back of the Ford Excursion which didn’t belong to him? Will his lawyer argue the grand theft was just part of his DUI and should be dismissed? Will he tell his constituents he “intends” to resign in a bid for time? Will he pull a Weiner, fall on his sword and beg forgiveness?
The ensuing weeks of media coverage will be interesting.

  1. John McGee runs with known drunks. He should check out AA or some other 12 step program. I feel so sorry for his young family.

  2. The bigger they are the harder they fall. What a way to spend FATHER'S DAY! He will have a hard time explaining this to his staunch Republican Masters and colleagues. His star is not very shiny over all this.

  3. Who knows what kind of "persona" lurks behind the image.

  4. Let's call this a triple bogey plus an out of bounds penalty for Senator McGee. His ability to salvage his reputation will have a lot to do with how he explains this escapade to the satisfaction of people who have supported him. This means no smoke and mirrors and a genuine mea culpa on his part.

  5. McGee can now scratch getting arrested and going to jail off his "bucket list". This will pass in time but will no doubt cause him and his family some embarrassment until it gets resolved. Let's just hope it was a "hangover" episode that won't be repeated or deteriorate into something more serious.

  6. The peoples concern should be making sure he serves the time, and pays the fine for his crimes. What would happen to us regular middle class slugs out here if we did something like this?

  7. Where are his shoes and socks along with his car keys and vehicle? If he is convicted of a felony they it will surely be the end of his political career.

Hmm...the whereabouts of the shoes and socks and did his wife call him in as MIA by the time 4:00 in the morning rolled around. All this is not adding up for me.

  8. Editor note: All of this loss of privacy and the ability to maintain a degree of anonymity could be why it is hard to find people to run for public office.
Very few of us are candidates for sainthood and most would prefer their private lives remain private.

  9. Why not just assume all politicians have big personal problems. Then we won't be surprised when they end up in the slammer!

  11. I was reading the Press Tribune this morning (6-25) and I agree with the person that said that if you have that letter "R" as a politician here in Canyon County and the local area, one can just about get away with anything, because the judical arena is composed of personnel with "R" beside their names and office, also. Look what is happening to Mr. Rammel with the letter "I" beside his name, he gets arrested for revealing the truth. Lot of people with the letter "D" beside their name, have their right to free speech hindered, also.

  12. I really do want to give John the benefit of the doubt here but the longer he goes saying nothing the more credibility he is losing. All politicians know about 50% of the people don't particularly like them but this veil of silence is really ticking me off.

  13. read some of the comments from the Idaho Press Tribune's editorial (6/26). 99% of the comments have it right, but the editorial author has clearly drank John McGee's sweet Kool-aid a long time ago. Let's hope "they" wake up soon by the sound of John McGee's bitter silence.

  14. The Press Tribunes bought off journalism is going to be part of the spin machine that exonerates our local golden boy, just wait.

  15. He skated his way out of it.

  16. Sen. McGee stepped up to the plate and made the damage issues right with the vehicle owner and he admitted his guilt on the misdemeanor DUI today (7-1-11) in Ada County Court. He got no special consideration on his sentence for the DUI but with the payment for repairs to the vehicle owner the other charges were dropped.

I applaud John for not beating around the bush and not seeking any special consideration in this matter. This will be nothing more than a speed bump in the road of life for him with the passage of time.

  17. Sorry, I don't see it that way. To many buyoffs to make sure the golden boys political future stays solid. The culture of corruption is alive and well in Canyon County and Idaho.

  18. Still watching the news on our rising star,(or skulking skunk) just depends on how one looks at it.

  19. Senator John McGee can be thankful he is not a police officer in the state of Idaho enforcing the laws instead of a state Senator making the laws. In Idaho when any certified police officer is guilty of a DUI the Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training revoke the officers police certification resulting in the officer being fired and barred from being a police officer any where in the state. Too bad we don't have the same standards for our politicians who are making the laws police officers are sworn to uphold and enforce.

  20. I am appauled that so many are so judgemental. John McGee is not a Saint, but neither is anyone else who bad mouths and belittles others.Let him pay his fines, let him do what needs to be done to "pay his dues." If this was YOUR husband, kid, or close friend, would you be so harsh... OR would you be understanding that we ALL screw up and make bad choices? Thank God that you aren't condemned for them!

A public discourse on the issues of the day makes the world a better place.

We welcome comments but they will be moderated and edited if too long or do not have anything to do with the post.
Agree or disagree just do it without profanity or it won't get posted. Try to keep your comments to no more than 300 words. Too long and I will try to edit it down or simply delete the comment. The whole idea is to get people to read your comment. Don't use 10 words when one will do the job.

It's OK to have a difference of opinion but keep it civil. I have used the "delete" feature on myself at times.

The ANONYMOUS feature for comments seems to be the most user friendly. People have commented they have difficulty with the other methods of posting comments.
